The Realms

Animar is a facinating world where all people have two forms, one human and one animal. Over time, a natural division into "realms" has occurred. Although the people of Animar share in the ability to transform at will, each realm has strengths and weakness that make them unique to the others. Despite their differences one fact remains true - on Animar life is cruel for the hunted, and everyone is game.

Herbivores

The Herbivore realm is mainly comprised of nomadic people who live and travel in large clusters for protection. They lack inherent combat prowess but make up for it by training, intellect and the will to survive. Their diet consists of foods that are by-products of the farming of fruits and vegetables and although their dietary choices may appear a bit bland, they are masterful bakers and brewers and tend to indulge in these areas a bit more than they should. Typical animal forms include deer, cows, elephants, giraffes, goats and horses.

Carnic

The Carnic are predators driven by an unrelenting thirst for meat. From birth, they meticulously train their young in the ways of hunting. They commonly live and function in small clans led by dominant figures, usually referred to as the Alpha, who rule their actions. Made up of primarily carnivores and a few omnivores, their craving for blood is naturally supplied by the generally weaker inhabitants of the planet - the Herbivores. Common animal forms include wolves, tigers, lions, bears, and dogs.

Avian

The Avians are a reclusive people who lived high atop the trees in majestic wooden structures carved by carpenters with remarkable skill. They have deliberately separated themselves from the strife that has spread across the land below. The ability to take flight is envied by many land-dwellers. While some Herbivores and Carnics might dream of soaring high above the majestic mountaintops and far from their own daily fight for survival, others view this talent as one that can be utilized for more diabolical means.

The Avians are omnivores. They feed on fruits and vegetables as well as smaller species of the other realms and, on occasion, their own that have fallen due to permanent injury or disfigurement. Examples of Avian species include owls, eagles, hawks, parrots, sparrows and vultures.

Aquan

The Aquans inhabit the ocean depths, where light rarely penetrates and the infectious touch of the outside world cannot reach. Little is known of how they live for they rarely wander onto land. In those rare and precious moments when they are inclined to do so, the Aquans are often shrouded by the darkness of night, away from the prying eyes of strangers and the implications of contact with the land dwellers. Their animal forms are rarely seen by those on the land and thus their varieties, and diet, remain a mystery.

Reptilian

The last of the known realms, and perhaps the smallest, is that of the Reptilian. A slippery, scaly people, their motives are as unpredictable as their actions. They are believed to feed mostly on small creatures and clearly live in isolation from others. There are times, perhaps more frequently than one might expect, that their paths cross with those of the other realms. Their motives, however, are always questioned by the astute. Snakes and frogs are known species of the Reptilian, while other animal forms, like the Aquan, remain a mystery.
